We should care because animals are vital to our survival. Even if just one animal that we don't care about goes extinct, it could shake up whole food chains, eventually leading up to top predators, including humans .
What can we do to stop it?
The first thing we can do is to not kill animals. For example, people who choose to live near bears or wolves can try to adjust their lifestyles by being mindful of keeping garbage and domestic livestock securely locked up, having motion lights and/or guard dogs to scare away wild animals instead of shooting them if they come to close.
Another thing we can do is inspire others to be mindful about not using pesticides. Pesticides and herbicides become concentrated as they go up entire food chains, poisoning the animals along the way. For example, in the book, Silent Spring, Rachel Carson explains how countless species of insects, birds and animals were destroyed with the common pesticide known as DDT. We can try other natural ways to eliminate pests or weeds from our crops such as planting insect repelling plants next to our crops.
